Digital Audio Project Translator

Pro-Convert is a new software application designed to improve workflow and make it easier for producers to use their Digital Audio Workstation of choice. Pro-Convert is audio project translation software that facilitates the exchange of entire projects between audio applications. The application is designed to make it much easier and quicker to move projects between producers or facilities where different audio applications are in daily use. Pro-convert is designed to remove the creative and technical constraints presented by an ‘industry standard’ DAW environment.

For commercial music facilities Pro-Convert means the ability to streamline the process of opening projects created within a broader range of DAW environments. For the creative producer Pro-Convert means being able to begin projects within your private studio using the DAW that is the best creative fit for the way you want to work, secure in the knowledge that you can easily transport your project for collaboration or mastering. For Commercial Post facilities, Pro-Convert means the ability to easily import music and material created within a diverse range of DAW environments for mixing. For large scale Post Production projects or facilities where multiple producers contribute to a single production process, production teams can enjoy significantly streamlined workflow.

Pro-Convert effectively supports over 40 different audio applications (see the Format Overview page for details) each of which has a very different feature set and method of implementing specific features. There are therefore a great many permutations of conversion that might be undertaken using Pro-Convert. Some applications have extensive feature sets, others do not. It is not always possible to convert specific features between selected applications… it is possible for us to provide a definitive list of which features are available for translation with each key application; that list is available in our online help file and on the Format Table web page. Our online help file also provides additional detail regarding advantages or limitations of specific leading applications so please read any sections of particular interest to you.

Steinberg XML	*.xml	XML format that can be used with Nuendo 3.x and later and Cubase SX3 and later.
Apple XML	*.xml	XML format that is used with Final Cut Pro 4 and 5.x, Logic 8 and Soundtrack Pro 2.
Samplitude	*.edl	Text format. Used in Sequoia™ & Samplitude™
Vegas	*.txt	Text format. Used in Vegas Audio™ & Vegas Video™
Vegas Scripting	*.xml	XML format used with Vegas Video 5 and later.
Adobe Audition	*.ses	Binary file format. Originally based on Cool Edit Pro 2.

S3-Interchange	*.icf	Binary file format. Created by Old School to provide an exchange format for Sadie3™.
S4-Interchange	*.ic4	Binary file format. Created by Old School to provide an exchange format for Sadie4™.
Sonic EDL	*.edl	Format used in Sonic Studio™.
Discreet EDL	*.edl	Export format created by Discreet's edit.
AES31	*.adl	Text based format. Developed for the AES organization.
OpenTL	*.tl	Invented by Timeline with the release of the Tascam MX2424™ harddisk recorder.
OMFI	*.omf	Complex format developed by Avid corporation to allow easier file interchange including platform crossing.
CMX3600	*.edl	The mother of all EDL formats. Text format. Supported by EDL Convert on the import side.
Grassvalley	*.edl	Similar to the CMX3600 format. Text based. Supported on import.
DAR	*.rdl	Used with DAR's OMR8 recorder. Supported only for import.
Tascam BU	*.bu	Container format invented for Tascam's MX2424.
SSL Soundscape	*.arr	Arrange file format; Audio Project Format used by Solid State Logic's Soundscape™ Editor v4.x or later
Pro Tools 5.0	*.pt5	Digidesign's session format for Pro Tools 5.0. Can be used with any Pro Tools version later than 5.0.
